Accelerated OpenGL Mode?

Every time i try to open Minecraft in a browser, my computer freezes up and I have to restart it.
When I try to open it via the launcher, I get the "Bad video card drivers!" error.
Basically, it says that it couldn't start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode. It says that updating my video card drivers might help, but it doesn't because my video card is quite old (the card site thingy doesn't even have the download links anymore) and my computer is a business computer - an OLD one at that. I can still play alot of 3D games though. I know there's an obvious solution, replace my video card!!! I bought a gaming one, but the computer guy says that my graphics card slot is a VGA type. Before I spend more money on computer guys or graphics cards, does anyone have a solution that does not require a new graphics card, or a graphics card that will work (preferably cheap '~')
