The newest minecraft client will not download the resources folder, which contains sound and music, but it can still play the sounds if the folder is actually there.
- Sounds only: http://www.mediafire.com/?mqm2v3c8uw0p22k (1.42MB) < seems to have only a few basic sounds
- Sounds and music: http://www.mediafire.com/?6vf86sass33eemv (27.86MB) < i cropped too much, this one has all sounds, in addition to the music
I downloaded the biggest of those files, but I don't know where to put it, cause I have only Minecraft.exe on desktop and it ignores if I put that folder in the same place as exe. So, where I have to put that "resources" folder, to make these sounds work?
You should put the folder at "Documents and Settings/<user name>/Application Data/.minecraft" if you're on Windows XP, if not, check the topic later, I'll add the path for other OS's soon.
I have Windows 7, but I don't have the "AppData" folder anywhere. I putted them into My Documents - not working.
It might be hidden, or be called "Application Data".
You need to find the "resources" folder. It's in:
when you press on the start menu button you have to type %appdata% in the search bar and the map you need shows up
hope this helps :p
Done as instructed (with both just the Sound and the Sound + Music files) on a Windows 7 machine, but for some reason still no sound once extracted and placed into the correct area.
Any ideas?
I have the same problem
All files are there under roaming folder
Even opened it up and played some music in a player all files are fine just not loading by minecraft for some reason
Windows 7 32bit
I've done this before but now it actully don't work so that's sad i want new sounds and i downloaded both tried them out 1 by 1 and they didn't work not even a click or step sound worked. Any more ideas to get my sounds working. Im running on xp.
I also have the same problem and I've done all listed here.
Other things i've tried:
Deleted my resource folder entirely and then ran the game,
Used a backed up resources folder in place of my current,
Tried playing via web browser,
Replaced the OpenAL.dll with a current version,
Making sure i haven't just turned sound off in game,
Re-downloaded the .exe,
Restarting the PC,
All sounds on my PC work fine except from minecraft.
I'm guessing something happened during the server's downtime, the game ran flawlessly before the site went back up sometime in the last 24hrs.
Edit:
Found this while reading notch's blog:
"I haven’t been able to move the resources (sounds and music yet) because
those used a rather ridiculous auto updating scheme that was different
from the rest of the game. I will fix this today."
Maybe this is the cause?
Hopefully he will fix it within the next day.
it's a server problem, if u disconenct from the internet you can play offline with sound. if the game reach the server it goes mute
Now why didn't i think of that?
Thanks :D
I have been having the problem before there was server issues I am so use to playing with no music but from youtube videos I want it lol
long couple of days for sound
hi, im new and ive been trying to fix this problem for a while. Instead of going offline and playing you can be online and play, but you have to block minecraft.net, and blocking in browser, of course, is not the issue.
what you have to do is:
1. go to c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc
2. open host file in notepad
3. put the next 2 lines at the end of file:
127.0.0.1 www.minecraft.net
127.0.0.1 minecraft.net
4. save the file (make sure it doesnt save as .txt.
5.enjoy playing minecraft with sound but remember to delete those 2 lines from the host file when yo uwant to have access to minecraft.net again. I hope they will fix the problem soon and hope this helps :)
Can someone explain this using windows 7
Where is this host file and is it called host file???
Everything seems back to normal for me now.
Just thought i'd let y'all know ;)
Notch reports, and I can confirm, that sounds are being properly downloaded again. For Creative, just go into options and turn Sound on (it will have been turned off). For Alpha, go to the ESC menu, press and hold F3 and S and after a few seconds or so the stats should stutter a little bit as Minecraft redownloads all the sounds. After that, go to the Options menu, and drag up the Sound slider.
In beta, the way I did it is by going to options, dragging the sound bars around, then put them back to 100%. That seemed to work for me! :P
it doesn't work for me.
i dont have the sounds of zombies and cows and thinks like that.
with F3 + s nothing happen...
what to do ?
-Srry for bad english-
KamiShizuka, thanks :D i had a problem with my sound, i could only hear the basic sounds but now its solved thank you :)
xD
nothing helps, no sound, when I click on the sound bar the game crashes even online I cant click on the sound bar without making the screen go white...
I have the same problem that luedriver has, if anyone knows a solution, please let us know.
all you have to do is find out what system your running on 32 bit or 64 bit...
It still isnt working, it keeps kicking me off minecraft. Thanks for helping though.
I didn't do it right untill i saw the other file and it worked! Thank you very much!
Sometimes if you need to update your client, the sound wont work, before fiddling with the program try to force and update see if that helps
