So after noticing that World of Minecraft is coming up on it's 5th year as a community is there any big plans for the occasion? I was thinking maybe we get a group disscussion going about it? Or maybe the idea put in the pot for things to do?
Anyway feedback on the idea would be great atleast that would give them something to work with right?

I just looked at H4X account info, and he has been a World of Minecraft member for 4yr 25wks. So 5yrs would be in 27 weeks, and that is the last week of July (27 July-2 august using Sunday-Saturday).

Well the 30th is on a wensday so we could have the weekend before or after? Anyone have any ideas about what we could do? I was thinking a PvP Tourney/CTF tourney.

I have an idea for a game, but i would need to talk to snow about it. Of course this would be a 1 time thing, and it may be hard, but ill talk to him.

Maybe a week long hub tournament, all players get /fly for a day, and random fireworks going up everywhere near players! also maybe give players a bit of SMP money and make costs for things cheaper and things being /worth more on the day. That would be an awesome 5 year celebratioN!

EDIT: Maybe no money, but things get like 5% cheaper in the market adnt things worth 5% more in /worth. Then people might be able to get things easily.

I see what you're saying @Mason but thats a bit unreal due to the fact money would be saved from now to then to max out what people can buy which would kill the economy. Otherwuse nice ideas. :)

if you have ever heard of UHC (ultra hard core) you know that it is a team pvp tournament with no natural regeneration. you need to use golden apples to heal yourself. if you die you are out of the game. The team left standing last wins.
The trouble is snow and myself would need to get the plugins together and we would need to have staff to moderate the game, also we would need a way for players to comunicate in private as a team. Finnaly we would have to dedticate one of the servers to it for a few hours
The game also can take upto an 4 hours to play, and you need at least 12 people, so i doubt it will happen

We have plenty of time, so just section off an area in smp or cmp and set up a carnival with rides and games. My ideas so far:
archery contest
fishing tournament (most fish, best loot caught, etc)
roller coaster
render the staffs' skins as statues around the park
water slide
funhouse
maze
horse racing
best looking original skin
small scale build contest(something like at x time must be done, no bigger than 20x20x20 and can only use x block (stairs, wool, cobble, etc)
free food stalls of nothing but sweets(cake,pie,cookie)
Dunk tank where members can drop in staff (and yes I already thought up a schematic)
fireworks show every 2-4 hours on last day/evening
Anything else fun people can think of. I think this would be better than a single planned event. Would allow more come and go and still be fun.

I like the UHC idea. What if we had an UHC competition? Say we opened a ultra hard core server for that week, but put a goal, so whomever had the most of something, say unused diamonds for example, at the end of the week, wins a prize. Like a beacon.. we would only have to add plugins to keep people from logging out when the got attacked, and a random spawn plugin, and of course the ultra hard core plugin. So you have to go the whole week without dying, while also collecting as many of something as you can.

I like the idea of the UHC competition, but I think capt's idea would work well.
The game can also take up to four hours to play
This is the next problem, because not many people would be able to play for that long at one time, especially on a weekday. (I'm not sure if the anniversary is on a weekend) Thats why I think it should be a anniversary week. It would give everyone some time to play, mess around a bit. I know school will be back for most players, so it could be difficult for them to play on the day

If we do UHC great, but I suggested the carnival specifically to avoid isolating people or give them something to do once eliminated from UHC. As lockpick pointed out, a lot of people dont have 4 hours to play at once. Plus, we are in many different time zones.

I agree we should do a bunch of little things leading up to the UHC almost like it's the main event. Also we should be able to spectate the UHC.
Also a way to make the games faster paced is world boarding like 500x500 or smaller? The Mindcrack guys do 2500x2500, also they tend to meet at the middle a certain point. So we could set an 1.5hour time limit to collect then everyone rush middle?

I dislike the idea of having a PvP tourney or such to celebrate World of Minecraft's anniversary. We have an epic history of building and socialising, and honestly PvP has nothing to do with that. Moreover, Minecraft wasn't really designed for PvP anyway.

It's not that World of Minecraft is PvP server but it's something thats fun to do and people enjoy it. But no one wants to get on for the 5 year party just to socialize. But like you said we weren't built on PvP; Do you have any ideas Sonardo?
Last note, World of Minecraft at points did have PvP maps so it was appart of it's history :P

I agree that we should have a carnival, but I also thought it would be fun to have some action in the celebration, allong WITH building and skill contests.
Anyways, i won't bother snow about it then.

You wouldn't even need a random spawn plugin. There's a vanilla command for that. Also, maybe people could register beforehand if they wanted so that way teams could be made and you wouldn't need to travel foreverf to make the game more UHC-ish. Also, if we were to do the UHC, once everything was done people could put their perspective up for other people to see if they so choose.
EDIT: Also, if it was going to be most unused somethings left you would want to make it gold since that's the only way to regen.
Maybe there could be an infinite firework contraption built over spawn like on the map that would play for the week?

A competition type thing where builders throwback to previous builds?
I bet the community could put together some screenshots for newer players. The coolest and most accurate build wins? Or staff could simply cristen it the World of Minecraft Museum? I think this would be fun with the grand opening on the same day as a UHC tournement and other build projects, along with new and interesting HUB tournaments?

I remember seeing this one other server i go to play minigames in. (It will remain nameless)
the plug-in was basically like the tron cycles where they leave a trail behind them and if you hit it you die.
how would that be for a tournament?
