Ok so I know that I just got back and I'm already making a forum topic that might seem as if I'm complaining, but I assure you I'm not. Anyway is the block lag on the server going to get fixed? And for some reason I'm walking on a unloaded chunk... It's very scary
Yea, other people on the server have been complaining about it when I was on earlier and I know it isn't my comp, my Mac would never do that to me.
I know it isn't my comp, my Mac would never do that to me.
Block lag and chunks not loading fast enough is never a computer problem. Could be your network, though
I have far more block lag now than before the update, but there are way more people on and most of them are exploring so a lot more resource heavy.
I have more issues with chunks not loading personally, especially with my render distance set almost a the way up. I did not that if you go in and change the render distance up or down a chunk or 2, all the chunks reload and you are good to go. Sure I have to repeat pretty often when exploring new terrain, but it makes it manageable. Makes an ok work around while everyone settles in and the kinks are worked out.
Yes once people stop exploring and settle down it should be fine
This is generally cuased by the anti x-ray system and your client being unable to handle the extra data being sent by the anti x-ray system.
It really depends on how busy the server is and if there are any cache files free to be used on the area you are exploring.
I am tweaking the anti x-ray system every day to try and find a nice point for useability and performance.
Let me know if it improves or gets worse! (:
MrSnow, we really do appreciate all the work you have put in to get the server up and running. Thank you. I will create a monument in you honor when I complete my build. I promise this timer it will be bigger than the headstone I made you last server.
Spud helped a lot as well! Don't forget to thank him!
True. Spuds may also have a monument and I will place it beside the first monument only slightly higher so you get a two-level effect with a little path down the middle. (Will see who recognizes obscure movie reference)
its also due to new chunks loading so cause of that its causing the RAM disk to shoot up so if snow does a restart every 12 to 24 hrs it should help with the lag
Servers ain't on a RAMdisk
What are they on then?
A floppy disc.
Psh. Flobby disk? Our whole server is stored on this bad boy.
@ramza - a Hardrive?
get rid of anti xray in general. im not saying this because i use xray or whatever. Im saying it because i am positive about the fact that the World of Minecraft staff can handle xrayers without an anti xray plugin, which causes lag, and I heard anti-xray plugins slow down servers. Xrayers should know that if they are doing it they are doing it under the risk of being banned. They are easily caught as well so it shouldnt be that big of a problem. Im not surprised if this gets vetoed but Im just putting out what i have on my mind.
It isn't going anywhere, end of story.
We are working out the issues with it and it's slowly getting better for people. It is not easy to catch x-ray users at all, in fact it's quite hard which is why we opt to use the system.
We have such a fine balance to keep with our new econ system that we can't afford to not have it to run the risk of people cheating.
As for the "lagg" it causes: It only makes people who use potatoes or cardboard boxes as computers lagg because the anti x-ray system adds a little bit of extra data for the minecraft client to handle. Some systems just can't cope with it.
Bare in mind people: The Server/s are still in early access which means they are not complete. Still things to be worked out and polished.
I hope i didnt upset anyone by asking this, anyways the reason i am asking is because even my alienware intel core i7 computer with a network that runs pretty fast cant run 1 full hour without lag I understand servers are not complete, just mentioning why i posted in the first place
A common misconception with minecraft is that your JVM(Java Virtual Machine) which minecraft runs off, does not use your machines full resources, you have to change it's preferences to do so, when optifine updates the client issues should iron out quickly with ease but the vanilla client sucks unless you change the JVM settings on your machine.
Magiclauncher is a great way to mod minecraft without needing a lot of technical knowledge. You can assign dedicated ram (default in vanilla is really low and kills most people's frame rate and causes lag since they don't change it) without having to modify anything in .minecraft and you can load mods from a folder (all this allows you to avoid risking creating a file error or having to keep a clean copy of your .minecraft folder. It also check your mods for conflicts and compatibility. Updating mods is easy also since you just click remove and add in the new version and your set. It also allows you to save different mods to different profiles so that if you go from 1.6.4 and then play 1.7.2, all your mods swap out automatically.

I haven't seen any block lag issues myself.
Is it happening consistently for you ?
