Client interface question

Just a stupid question…
Why does the client interface force me to see that server list?
Why can't I just enter my server IP address and be done with it?
Oh and another question,
Why is it when I do put in the correct <PROTOCOL>://<SERVER>:<PORT> that the client tries to connect on a random port as is evidenced by the server reporting…
[INFO] Disconnecting /<SERVER>:55238: Protocol error
[INFO] /<SERVER>:55238 lost connection
Just wondering...
