Hi All,
I'm trying to download mods, forge, and all that good stuff but with the new Windows 8, we can't get anything to open. I've tried going here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/964897-162-spmplan-alpha-clay-soldiers-mod-v-200/ and clicking on the right button, but my security says it's a virus and even when I turn off virus protection, I either get trapped in surveys and pop-ups or I can't find the file because Windows 8 is complicated. There is no little windows button in the bottom left!
My son just wants to play the clay soldiers mod. We have a good computer and everything he needs. I just need to help him figure this out. We've tried every walk-through, but since they're not for Windows 8, we get stuck. Anyone with a step-by-step walk-through would be appreciated.

Also, alt + left click disables pop-ups i think (or i might be something else, cant remember)
There is no little windows button in the bottom left!
That is very unusual. Since i have windows 7, i cant really help you, but try ctrl + alt + delete.
Umm, try restarting your computer.?
I hope this helps (not really) but if this continues happening and nothing can fix it, i suggest bringing it to a computer store.

sam windows 8 removes the start button..
unless you're using windows 8.1
use the windows key on the keyboard to get there or it will appear if you move the mouse there.

You could aso use a prgoram called start is back. I think its like 3 dollars, but you can get a trial version for freeeeee.

I took a screen shot so you can see what I get when I try to download from the links. What is the jar? Where can I find it? And I do have a mods folder, but I just added it to my desktop. Should it be somewhere else?

From what i can see the mod is server and client so you may need to host a server to get it to work properly.
The mods folder is a folder that the server will create usually in whatever directory the server is in. (Looks like yours is on the desktop)
(The error you got is because you tried to open the jar directly, you put it in the mods folder and the server will access it from there)

I use the little folder thats showed in your picture to find any game related downloads when it comes to all of my games. But you can use the set up button to get further into your computer by hovering your mouse down at the right corner. Sorry, I am not that good at explaining, but win 8 has not made downloading any more difficult for me. I hope you figure it out!

As far as i can tell you shouldn't need to do anything different for windows 8 mods.
Stay in desktop mode for everything, you don't need the new UI for this.
Download these two things. (The mod manager pack and the clay soldiers mod) and post if your antivirus is still having a sad.
If it is then please let me know exactly what the message is and what antivirus you run.
If not then proceed to install the mods following whatever other guide you were using before.
