Hey!
I've bought Minecraft and I'm very dissapointed at multiplayer cause I can't get anything to work.
Lan worlds won't work (me and my brother are both in the same house, connected to same internet, we both have a premium minecraft account and have added minecraft to exception in Windows Firewall yet it doesn't work) I'm so mad!! But on this thread I'd like to discuss maintaining a server mainly.
I can't make my own server so friends could connect to it.
So...I have downloaded that Java thingy called Minecraft_Server from Minecraft.net.
I've put that program in it's own folder and then ran it. It extracted a bunch of other stuff, including that server.properties file. In that file, where it says server.ip I've pasted my IP adress. It's correct 100% I've verified it in more ways.
I keep that Minecraft_Server.exe running and then I launch Minecraft, go to multiplayer---->Add server---->type in the same name I've written in server.properties and paste the IP adress (correct 100%). I click "Done" and then it says "Can't reach server"
Can someone please help me out with this?
I'm so mad at Mojang they don't even offer any help at this even tho' I bought their game.
Might as well download a pirated one if multiplayer doesn't work -_-
Thanks for reply.
What exactly does it mean to port forward in?
Sorry I don't know much about setting up a server.
also you need to have outgoing ports enable via ISP side so if they are not enable then you really cant host your own server also with LAN you will see 0.0.0.0:xxxxx (x replace with port) so go to your start type cmd in your Search Programs and Files hit enter, type ipconfig and look for your internal ip address and use that with the port
@niels
thanks for googling it for me :)
@ssfdre38
OK so I leave the 0.0.0.0. only replace what comes after with my entire IPv4 address right?
ssf
I have no idea wtf you are talking about with this enable outgoing ports shiz....
(please explain)
Most ISP block all out going ports for homes connections cause they want people to upgrade to busniess class internet that will get them a static ports. so that means even if you port foward though the router and your modem, you can still be not allowed by your ISP
oh, right. America does things stupidly >.<
yea so that is why im saying that so the best bet no matter what is to get a VPS (if mindcraft is allowed for hosting) or use a public server like World of Minecraft to play with your friends or family
Fair enough,
We don't have to deal with any of that on this end of the world.
Hadn't seen it before.
*yay* new things

You need to port forward in order to use the server software properly
(Also, you won't be able to join all servers if you would have pirated the game)
