I am about to buy mine craft, will I get banned if I use modded client?

Seriously, though, I am about to buy it for 10$, I don't want to lose 10$ for no reason. I use the modded client on servers that allow it (team 9000). They don't care, but will Notch?
Anyways, just tell me if I can get banned for using it.
