There are many loaders, patchers, mods and the version must match! Explaining how to gets your newbie mates onto Industrial Craft or checking out the snapshots can be painfull. If you are good with mods you will doubtless help other players to get setup.
We had this problem. We run a Snapshot server, a Bukkit server and an industrial craft server.
This means you gotta have some method for switching. There are many. We needed an idiot proof one. What we have is close :D
1. Install from Downloaded Jarsetup.exe
2. Launch from Desktop Shortcut
Requires: Minecraft (!) .NET 3.5
tested on Windows 7 32bit & 64bit
