I had just crashed MC, (as usual) and I was logging back into SMP, when I got a very confusing message. It could not have been the entire server, because I saw that there were people still online, but something tells me the message I got is not very good.

Yeah that is strange.

I'm no expert but maybe it your internet connection? Java up to date? Try a restart. Somebody else with a magic wand!
