So I've noticed that the player count has gone down from where it has been. This topic is a fourm to brainstorm how to get new users, and old useres, to World of Minecraft.
Don't suggest advertising on other servers, do do to others what you wouldn't want them to do to you.
Make it creative, not just ask everyone to vote for the server, or something.
Post your ideas below! :D
EDIT: Don't do*
find a way to make everyone have more time.
Thats impossible, as we (sadly) do not control everyone's lives
Yet.
I favor the idea of World of Minecraft hosting an event, but just plan ahead at least a few days. Maybe make a sign-up thread so you can get an idea of how many would show. As for what you could do..it would be sick to play some Dodgeball..That would be fun >:3. Other than an event I don't know of another way to grab players other than advertising.
Please note: The plugin is just an example, not sure if you can find more
and more cowbell!
YOUTUBE VIDEOS! :D
YOUTUBE VIDEOS! :D [/Quote
This is an intresting point, I was talking to Snow about it a while ago on IRC. We do have some budding video makers on the server, but not many people will upload to a community channel without pay. We were even talking about making a World of Minecraft trailer to upload, but I don't know what the progress is on that.
i would but i dont have much time to play or record
Video Content is an awkward path to walk:
We could take a shot at making videos and trying to draw more awareness. The problem is that if the video/s happen to be good and become a thing people would expect us to create a few times a month, time becomes a factor because these days a lot of the staff (myself included) lead busy lives and cant find as much time to spend it creating videos. Bare in mind that creating video content is not an easy thing and it takes a lot of time to get anything done.
Community events are probably our best shot and are easily maintainable with our current backend tech. These tie in with our "Secret Project".
Hopefully we can share some more news soon.
I like the idea of having World of Minecraft members create a YouTube channel and make videos. I think it would be greatly beneficial to publicizing the server. I know that I wouldn't mind making videos. I think I would be pretty fun.
I strongly agree whith what Snow was saying. If the become popular, we would have to upload regularaly, and they would expect to see their favourite player in those videos. It would take extrem comitment.
Also, i know that my parents aren't comfertable with me uploading myself to youtube. And i don't want you guys to get in trouble or have you put your self in danger because you've given away personal information.
The other thing is, are we all doing seperate chanels, a main channel, or a main channel that advertises the seperate chanels.
You guys are taking it to far, why not just start by making a videos with music in the background. No one is talking about making it a giant streaming channel unless you want. And also everyone could upload videos so not everyone would have to be worried about making their clip.
We could always just, you know, advertise on other forums...
Erm, read the post again :P
and the reason is we don't want to give World of Minecraft a bad reputation
Yes niels like on PMC. Like I said on another post.
and the reason is we don't want to give World of Minecraft a bad reputation
I don't see how that would give us a "bad reputation"
niels, would you go play on a server that someone spams up your fourms with, i think not.
I don't think there would be a problem with it, if we did it places where it was allowed. PMC has a specific place to advertise other servers just like we do here.
You have a point there
Advertising will happen.
I've purposely held it off because I feel World of Minecraft needs to be at a standard that we are not at (at the moment)
Once we are done with the secret project and streamline a few things, Advertising will be posted on a few highly visible sites.
Cleaned up this topic a bit. (of staff and user comments) Since it is a rather serious topic, try to keep it on ideas that will increase server population, and why/why not they might work.
Word-of-mouth is also a great method of promotion, guys. If every person complaining about the server being dead invited a few friends of theirs to join us, our population would grow considerably.
But maybe you could send out an email blast to your users reminding them that you're still here. A lot of people simply don't know that this is still an option with the rest of Minecraft growing so out of control.
If you feel guilty about doing this, just make sure to have an unsubscribe button - AND MAKE SURE TO COUNT THEM.
Why count the unsubs? So you know how many people, at a minimum, have seen the email and chosen not to bother with World of Minecraft any longer. This sounds bad, but it will at least give you an idea of the percentage of your userbase are not willing participants any longer.
You can also add hotlinked images, which are hosted on your servers. Each time a user opens an email, the image is loaded. Count the number of unique IP addresses. Corrolate this to the number of unsubs, and you have your ratio of unsubs to recipients.
Why am I going into such detail? Statistics. Why statistics? Because if you actually know the numbers, you can plan accordingly. Though, email blasts aren't the greatest way of determining server load - it is a good way of determining public opinion for World of Minecraft.
Make sure to have a product that is wanted and needed by the player community. If World of Minecraft's hosting of Minecraft servers is not a wanted and needed product, then perhaps it is time to, in the interest of continued existance, to look forward and into newer and unique opportunities with Minecraft servers. This could even be a "Retro" type server where you run a bukkit server and dumb it down to Classic mode, but add in the things we all wish we had 3-4 years ago. Like doors that work, water that flows, redstone wire - but not the obsessiveness of what I like to call "Servers with a Pokemon complex" - You know, where it seems like they're collecting them all, regardless of how useful the plugin actually is.
I would honestly love to play on a server with the charm and simplicity that Classic provided while having some of the newer tech provided in 1.x Release. I know there's already a "Creative" mode, but it just don't feel the same as Classic.
I know this last bit would really require time, money and other resources that World of Minecraft simply may not be able to spare. But then, these are just ideas.
fixing the whitelist url on the server error might help too.
wom.jr.com/play don't work as World of Minecraft.jr.com can't be found - expired domain? :(
womjr.com/play for starters.
Thanks for that rant, i'll take it into account (:
I do agree that finding the whitelist seems to be buried in the site as it is. Would it be possible to move this whitelist to an easier-to-see spot for the new players?
EDIT: I was being a derp. I'm so used to the darker World of Minecraft skin that I forgot we had a play button....
I don't think it's that hard to find....
I imagine that someone who wants to play would click the "Play!" button.
Just as an FYI I guess,
I've noticed a lot of new users get stuck in lobby.
There's a kit new players get now with a custom book to help them navigate lobby for the first time.
Thats a really good idea spuds!
Also AeSix_Reficul, your idea is a good one, it also has the potential to bring back old mebers, esspecialy after the ¥Ë¥ã©.
Why doesn't someone create a forum signature that is linked to World of Minecraft website? Should have some sort of effect?

find a way to make everyone have more time. (thats why i aint been on) and maybe run some more events cause lots of people like that. and if some other schools are doing like mine is end of quarter is less then a week away and people have to buckle down and get there stuff together like me lol
