Minecarts and pressureplates

I'm new here so i say hi ^^
I tried to make minecarts press on a pressureplates and go on and i managed that but i encoured a problem. :(
Basiclly i wanted to make a minecart press a pressureplate , the pressureplate changes the a single rail to the other side which means i can go with the same rail over again.
The problem is that as soon as the minecart leaves the pressureplate *puf* the rail changes back into the original form it was , so i was wondering how can i make it be pressed for ever?
And also i want to make a pressure plate to change 2 rails , i have a high track that goes up then it ends and the minecart falls , after the minecart falls it goes in a neat loop and gets to the high railroad again but this time it needs to get onto it from a other derection and it shouldnt fall , it should turn right before it falls and go to a other place.
Any ideas?
