Just something I had been thinking about. I know that when you get a lot of large autofarms, it can start to slow the game down. The only reason for a lot of them is to sell most of it to the server. Why not drop the server sales alltogether. That way people will only farm what they can legitimatley sell to other players and the top money earners are not the ones who idle the longest, but actually the better businessmen and women.
So... How will people get the money to buy from other people?
Disable selling items to server after a period of time the map resets...?
@prodigy, I never said anything about lowering prices. I think people should be able to charge whatever they want and can get. I just think that if you are going to farm for cash, it should have a community benefit. As for how people will get money fast enough is simple. Like any other business, you get out of it what you put into it. If you are playing to be the top earner, then you just have to devote some time to it and keep your shops stocked with things people need. It would operate on supply and demand, just like a normal business. Money is pointless if everyone just farms to hoard it and it devalues the currency as it will cause inflation. If everyone has $100,000 then the worth of $1 goes down and so on. Also, if people were gathering resources people need, they wouldn't need as much money since some of what they would formerly have been buying, they are now finding as they collect things for their shops. As for what would people sell at the beginning of the map, they can sell food, wood, stone, or other things people need when starting. Also, at the beginning, they should be focused on setting up a home of some sort to survive, as this is SMP. Once they are set up, as I said above, go get things people need. It’s not like trees, stone, animals, and such are hard to find, but people will always buy them to keep from having to do the work, so they make a good source of early income as people who want to just jump into their big project will want those to save time. The demand isn’t going to just go away, but the demand should be the focus, not how fast you can collect and sell to server.
But. When the server resets, the balances all reset. So if we get rid of the selling to the server, everyone will start with 0. Or 1000. Or some other small number. And they won't be able to sell essential things to people because other people won't have any money.
I guess we could wait a bit and then disable server selling, but that makes it a lot harder for people who join new.
Another option that i've thought about is allowing server selling only of items that can't be auto farmed. So crops won't sell, but things like wood, dirt, coal, iron, and gold would sell for more. These are pretty easy to get, but require people to actually be moving around and getting them, instead of just sitting there letting crops grow and then pressing a button to harvest them.
That would be fine Jupiter. It would make the giant lagging autofarms nonprofitable mostly and force people to actually play. I dont mind playing for money, but dont like lagging out the server to do it. Also,I dont mind people selling to server things they actually worked to obtain, I honestly just didn't think about the option of disabling autofarm items specifically, but that would be a great alternative. It would help the curency keep value and earning a large sum would actually be impressive as opposed to my first thought being, wow, thats a lot of time camping a farm.
What do you guys think about starting you out on say 1000 or 5000
then giving 50 per hour of play on the server
with selling back to the server disabled...
._.
Thats a really good idea.
That's not it. We should make everything a THOUSAND times it's original value! So people pay One MILLION dollars per diamond!
How about a voting system on planet minecraft and for a reward; $1000.00 and a few diamonds or a hand full of other useful things or food?
Just one word, Taxes. Wutcha think? It increases the amount of money gained and spent...Plus it would make it more life-like.
Taxes, whynot? And once a week, the richest person loses 10% of his money to the poorest person online that week.
What about the 5000 dollars spud said you were to start with on the server, and then maybe 100$ per hour instead of 50. Also, people who were 'server contributors' would get a small payceck per week or month or some period of time. This would go back to a thing that was discussed in the town threads. What if townowners were payed a small fee along with people like shop owners, and then warp owners would get payed a small amount per person who /warp'd to that area? (Payed by the server, of course. Not like you need to pay to /warp somewhere)
The new AFK boot fixes idlers, so I don't see a problem with auto farming.
Imo, taxes are a bad idea because people could go bankrupt and thats never a good thing.
Just getting this out there:
I am completely against giving players ANYTHING for minimal effort unless said things are completely useless.
Don't want to have people slowly stacking up cash for doing completely nothing.
WoM Coins: 953
Drop the prices? .O. I already think they are low enough, plus what will people sell at the beginning of the map? Also how will people get money fast enough to keep an economy going.
Ps I guess Im backk :P /.\)
