No Sound despite reinstall and other fun things

Howdy Folks, we're having the issue of absolutely no sound on a 64bit machine, here's what I've done to try and remedy the situation:
F3 + S, nada
Reinstall, nada
Renamed the .dll's, starting with System32. We followed this tutorial: http://windows7themes.net/minecraft-no-sound-fix-for-windows-7-vista-xp-mac.html
Checked our java install, everything seems kosher.
Deleted everything and had a look at the Resource folder, everything is there, and the sounds play fine.
Any other ideas? Help make me a happy man.
