I am looking for a good screen recorder.
windows: I don't know. I guess bandicam.
mac: use quick time player. It's built in. (mac os x 10.6 +)
FRAPS is nice.
If you have a GTX660 Graphics card or up you can sue the shadow capture feature which is the best screen capture method as it doesn't impact performance at all.
I suggest fraps if you really want to go far. As snow said, if you have the right graphics card it will be great.
I prefer Dxtory for the facto f all the options you can have with it! You can install whatever codecs you want and I have 1080 quality with no frame drops (though Im to lazy to wait an extra hour while rendering for 1080)
there are free ones on Linux if you have Linux
I recently found a great one called Active Presenter. Currently you can't record voice & game sounds at the same time but apparently that's coming in a future update.
Xsplit is a good screen recorder, you can record games and whatever you want with it, i use it for my commentaries, check it out and here you can see me using it.
Bandicam, Fraps, hypercam and a lot more
If you can afford it, on a mac buy screenflow. It causes no lag, records in 1080p and has video editing.
hypercam is for if you want to have a horrible quality video
Bandicam works for me! Its just that watermark that you get with the free version. :P

Try Bandicam. It's free, (if you don't mind the watermark) and it has a nice steady FPS rate.
