I am very new to minecraft. Started about a week or so ago. I just recently discovered what servers were, and well i want to play on one, but I have no idea how to. Since I'm still pretty new, I don't wanna just go into one (If i could even figure out how to join one) and look like a fool basically. I'm just looking for a little help/advice. I greatly appreciate any.

SO I started in a lobby area, and i wasn't sure which way to go, because i didnt know what the letters meant. Well i tried one, and it wasn't the one i wanted to go to. Now i can't figure out how to get out of there! Something about Mob Area? Please help!

CMP is a creative server where you can build whatever you want.
PVP is a survival server where absolutely anything goes except for the 2 rules of be respectful in chat and no hacking.
SMP is another survival server, but There are certain rules. (i.e.. Explosions off, Player Versus Player off, no griefing or stealing, etc.) There is also an economy here.
HUB is the prototype for a mini game server that will be starting up soon. So far, though, there is just one game there for stress testing, though.
Type /lobby to get back to this central area at any time.

SMP is the most active server at the moment. The letters mean as follows:
PvP Player versus Player
SMP Survival multiplayer (no PvP)
CMP Creative mulitplayer
HUB hub
