They crashed about a hour ago. Both of them
All we can do is wait for King Snow to awaken and solve the problem. Meanwhile I suggest you go play some other games

All I want to do is play Minecraft. No prior experience. I've registered and confirmed email on several websites. When I try to just play the thing, I get a box popping up asking about choosing a server or pasting a /classic/something URL. What does this mean? What do I choose? How do I just PLAY?

Hmm. Well if you go to "play!" on the top of the website and under "Ok, how do I play" you write your minecraft username, when the servers come up you can play SMP. Or you can go on pvp.womjr.com which requires no white-listing
