A number of players I've spoken to have been unaware or unsure of the rules and existence of our PVP server.
I thought I'd throw together this post so you guys can ask any questions you might have about pvp things, I'll answer you as best I can.
Our network of servers currently includes SMP (Survival multiplayer), CMP (Creative multiplayer) and PVP (Player VS player). PVP can be reached through the portal in the Lobby server.

The server is far less moderated than the other servers:
The same chat rules apply, (no spamming, swearing or excessive use of CAPS).
Cheats or hacks are not tolerated and we have methods in place to detect and prevent the use of these.
Follow staff instructions.
Walls build around any of the spawns will be removed.

Other than that there is no way to claim land, stealing and griefing are allowed.
The server is normal world only, there is no access to the nether or the end.
Spawn camping is technically allowed though it's frowned upon. To help prevent spawn camping there are also 2 additional spawns which you can reach from the corners of the main spawn.
Players will sometimes request a duel or match, In this case the winner returning items after death is good etiquette.
Spawns also have 2 distinct zones, the safe zone and the protected zone.
Within the safe zone you are protected from combat damage, within the protected zone you can be attacked but cannot build.

The server uses a clans plugin that allows you to form clans with your friends. Clans can create alliances and rivalries, more importantly clans can use a clan home which is the only way to teleport to a fixed location other than death returning you to spawn.

Some staff play pvp too.
To distinguish between staff who are playing pvp with you and staff who are being staff we have a staff-player rank.
Staff who play pvp will show up as this rank while they are playing pvp. While they are this rank they have no access to commands which might provide an advantage over you.
Occasionally they may need to do staff things such as cleaning up the spawn. For this they may switch back to staff rank.
You can tell the difference between staff levels by their in chat names. Staff who are playing will appear as players in the chat and /list though their names will be coloured in the tab list.
Staff in the chat who are coloured as staff are currently moderating the server and not playing pvp.

To prevent people from logging out to escape combat the server will kill you if you try and log out during a fight. After a fight or if you stop taking damage long enough, you will receive a chat message letting you know when it's safe to log out.
