Hello Everyone,
As many of you may have noticed, the minecraft.net server list for
Minecraft Classic has been spammed with over 70,000 fake servers,
slowing the entire site to a crawl and making it really hard to log in
to Minecraft and play on servers.
I know who is responsible, and I know how to fix it.
The person responsible is a one "Mad4Potter" who created an application
which spams the server list. He also created a rootkit virus which will
also spam the server list, and infected several of his friend's
computers with it. The spam occured on December 20 and 21, 2011. A
monstrous amount of data was spammed to the site, causing severe lag, in
something akin to a Distributed Denial of Service Attack (Where you
spam a large amount of data to shut down a site or service. The
attacking force is distributed on multiple networks and machines.)
We have learned all this information due to a few vigilant members of
the MCForge and MCStorm community (Both are Minecraft Classic Custom
Server Softwares). Much of this information can be found here: MCForge Forums Thread.
Armed with the IPs extracted from the fake servers, a select few people
launched a return attack, a potent DDoS attack on these people's
network and the server network they were traced to: GameWire.
Many of the spammers play on GameWire servers. The attacks shut these
people (A few ignorant Script Kiddies) down for enough time to scare
them into not repeating such offenses again.
The spammer spammed so much data that it will take minecraft.net weeks
to process the information and cleanse the server list of his scum. A
possible solution to this would be for Mollstam to reboot the site,
purging the backed up data in the server list.
Perhaps we can pressure Mollstam to restart the site, but we need your
help. We need you to post on his twitter asking him to restart the site,
explaining what happened to the site. Please, tell @mollstam on twitter
to reboot the server. If he doesn't it will take weeks before
minecraft.net gets better.

TL;DR: Script Kiddies spammed minecraft.net server list to the point it
is super slow, they got DDoSed, minecraft.net needs to be restarted or
it will take weeks for the site to return to normal.

I have told nearly all staff of server Ferny's Epic Freebuild to ask Mollstam to reboot if they have twitter. hopefully it should help and thanks again for saying what is going on. If asking Mollstam works then how long will it take to fix it from there?

What we need is for Notch to not be a lazy bum, and for once do something to fix the issues with minecraft.
It should be pretty easy to detect these attacks, and block the ip's.
But as always, after weeks of problems, we are seeing no effort from minecraft to fix the problems.

That is exactly why we need to fend for ourselves. When people start screwing with our minecraft, we need to counter-attack and hit them hard, hit them fast, and make them fear minecrafters.
It is the only way to ensure the safety of our minecraft.

That's a hardware issue.
Make sure your CPU fan and GPU fan are sufficient enough to keep your machine cool and check your internet.

I am unaware of the incident in which you say that I allegedly told you "lol we're DDoSing you". You were one of the spammers, your "friend" Mad4Potter injected your computer with a rootkit (a virus) that spammed the server list and may very well STILL be spamming the server list. As for how do I know so much? Some friends of mine.

Legal action needs to be taken. Attacks like that is not ok. But only the official minecraft.net (notch) can do that, since that's the server being attacked.

With new World of Minecraft 2.0.6 it says "unable to authenticate" whats the problem!

Now I can't register on World of Minecraft: Realms! Stupid hackers. I, for one, will ask Mollstam to reboot Minecraft. This is unacceptable. :(

The minecraftr server list MUST be reset,and including all the servers must be gone too, then the owners must remake the servers,but the minecraft devolepers must do something to stop this from coming back in the future, likeonly let trusted programs server makers,like MCForge and MCStorm to be allowed to make the servers, other then non-trusted program makers MUST be banned, disallowing spammers again, Vote up if this action should be taken.

Im against the idea of resetting minecraft and deleting all servers 'cause my World of Minecraft works perfectly! I can now even type in the search box becuase i downloaded the NEW World of Minecraft 2.06! If it doesnt work the first time then redown load it and it will be fine. Thats what I did.

guyz i tryed to get onto mojang.com and my laptop is brand new a mac book so it cant be my internet connect (i had a router in my room) and every website i go on is ok but mojang would not load at all!!! i left my pc for like an hour and it still wont load!!! I'm seriously annoyed right now about this so i might even have to call the police about this!
(I'm not sure but this might be temporary)
