ok, Ive got a classic server running.  anyone can connect to it,  even I can from the system its running on.
BUT
i have another computer on a lan here, and when I try to connect to the server from that other computer, i get the error of "failed to connect to server. its probably down."

Ive put an exception in the firewall on that computer, and opened up the 25565 port on that pc firewall as well..   but I still continue to get the error..

any ideas?

Try connecting via the alternate URL...

..... Minecraft.net offers an alternate URL function. Try connecting from the local machine to the "play.jsp?server=xxx" page, there should be a link at the bottom. Change the "?ip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" to the server's IP, and try again.
