Hi, Im having a huge fps problem trying to play minecraft, Ive updated my video drives java and all that stuff, my computer is capable of running this game, I can run other games like World of Warcraft and Team Fortress 2 no problem at 60 ~ 150 fps on the highest settings but for some reason when I load up mine craft BAM 2 fps. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
There is a bug somewhere either in Java, Minecraft, or the World of Minecraft Client that causes this. By messing around with the memory limit in run.bat you can fix this problem greatly. Try both lowering the amount of memory allocated to Java, and raising it.
im rather tired of full fog...
Here's a guide. http://www.worldofminecraft.com/node/1049#comment-2788
It seems to vary wildly from computer to computer as to how fast it is, regardless of what hardware/OS you have.
Such as my quad 3.2ghz xeon server will run it no fog 60 fps with a 8600gt graphics card.
Then I run it on this dell optiplex with a 2.8ghz celeron and a old fx5200 and it runs 100-120 fps with no fog!
Try running it on my friend's 3ghz p4 with a radeon 9550, and it bogs out to 30ish fps with the first level of fog.
Strange. Must be something to do with video card drivers and how java works with them. I think it has something to do with how cards are optimized for opengl. I have a computer with a 3dlabs wildcat 4210, specially for opengl apps like CAD/CAM operations, and that runs it very well @ 90 fps on a card from 1998 and dual 733mhz p3's.
my fps is like 205 to like 300 and the lowest is like 170

I have the same exact problem. I have no explanation other than Java is not that optimized for gaming..
