Can't see server on client

I download the client today only to find out that i cant see the server list when i login, and when i put in a URL for a sever i got from the browser MP and hit go it loads a forest map with no players.
Can anyone help me can find any thing like this on the forum
My specs Vista 32 with SP2

In the background is a cmd window... what does it say in there? There will be some kind of error.
Otherwise another thing to try is to go to C:\Users\%username%\appdata\roaming and delete the folder called .minecraft. This clears all temp files for minecraft and forces it re-sync the files from minecraft.net.
