I'm kind of a computer n00b. I entered in my username and password, and then instead of entering a server I selected single player. Then nothing happened. What do I do?

Try this:
On the weekend I kind of accidentally stumbled across a fix for this. Single player doesn't work, so it's leaving the old process running in the background. What you need to do is either start task manger and end process java OR reboot your machine. I haven't tried rebooting my machine, but I definitely know the other way works.
