I'm trying to use cartograph so I can find my home again but half way it always freezes not the bar but it says on windows 7 minecraft stopped working and nothing else happened and I noticed if I click out of cartograph it stops so I try watching it and nothing happens it just freezes at the exact same spot all the time no farther then usual >.> I even left it on for a while when I ate for a few minutes and when I came back nothing came up and I took of the screen saver too so that didn't mess it up. I downloaded the C++ thing that came on the forum I got it from and it just doesn't make a difference. Does anyone know how to make it finish rendering and thanks in advance for anyone who answers.
Ok thank you I'll just leave it for a long time then and I guess I'll check back in an hour or two and then see how it is. Thank you :D I hope this works
Well the first map I had was 16 MB and I left it on all day and night and nothing happened after that. I just made a new map and the size right now is 3 MB since I can't find any caves or anything and it freezes too I go on normal and it goes really fast and then this time a little more then a half way through it freezes >.> can anyone help me now? Also is there another program like cartograph I can't get the java one to do anything either so yeah >.>

It's not freezing, it's still thinking. Windows just assumes it has crashed even though you can see the progress bar smoothly moving across before Windows cuts it off. You have to wait, especially if you're running oblique or oblique-angled because of the extra calculations Cartograph has to run for those modes.
For huge maps (probably above the 10MB range), Cartograph has been reported to take up to an hour to chew through it all and render. Normal mode will always be faster, but even then there may be too much for it to work through to get ahead of Windows' pessimism.
So in short, wait. It's not crashing, it's just thinking.
