The chicken was trying to jack your minecarts and steal your cargo tram (which was no doubt laden with diamonds) to feed his starving family.
But because of your terrible placement of rail tracks, he was stuck in that little ditch. You can see him desperately trying to push that cargo cart up the hill.
You kick him out of the cart, he knows he's been rumbled and runs off to hide behind a tree.
He'll be back. He'll send in the revenge squad from that Zelda game and they'll tear you to shreds.
Run, man. RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN.
