u can download a tool Minecraft Skin Editor than can be download here.

or just find on some forums/sites skins they link you to the official mincraft site (minecraft.net) and press then on "Change Skin"

first you have to buy minecraft then you go to the skindex and look for skins there and upload one you like to your character
