Hi. I'm Cosine, as obvious by the text above this post. I'm an admin here at World of Minecraft, and I've been around for ages. If you don't think I have, go compare the amount of time I've been here to SMP's time (they're the same). Anyhow, I've been through just about every single rank there is on this server (every rank aside from spectator, builder, exec, and owner) and so I've had quite a bit of time to hone my crafting skills in this game to give a good list of pointers. Please note this isn't a topic for your pointers. Go click that "New Topic" button.
1: Boxes suck. Rarely will a building be a giant box with rooms. Normally, they're several interlinking boxes with various decorations hanging around it, such as trees, shrubs, other plants, and other wall designs. When I was a designer, I liked to build giant box houses. I never finished them, and nobody complimented me on them. Eventually, I figured it out and started to make houses room by room, as opposed to an outer shell and then the rooms. It works a whole lot better that way, unless your house IS a room (IE: a church/temple), or maybe your house uses a repeating design, such as rooms for a hotel, or rooms for an office.
2: If it doesn't look good, change it. 'Nuff said.
3: This isn't really a building tip, but if you want someone's opinion on your creation, don't ask right out "Can I get an opinion?" People are more likely to check it out with "Hey, come check out this thing I made, I think it's pretty cool." Try it, it works.
4: Rainbows are overused. If what you're making is just some rainbow design, I can pretty much guarantee it's been done before, and will be done again. I don't know of anyone who has gotten a promotion from a rainbow design (except maybe Pavelo, that guy makes trippy stuff).\
More tips to come.
Good thing we now know how long you've been here.
2: If it doesn't look good, change it. 'Nuff said.
Genius.
I'm just saying that because I've seen some people go "that looks like crap" and then leave.
Thanks for the tips. Hope to see more soon!
5. Don't build as you go. Plan ahead.
:D
"Please note this isn't a topic for your pointers."
Still..it was a good pointer
Okay, I wasn't trying to add to the list. I was just stating the obvious(?).
Boxes suck. This is law.
camgod, I do that all the time and I still managed to get arch rank. It works if you're good at it. :P
Hmm... I got promoted to builder because my base was "pretty good", and pretty much all the linking tunnels in it are rainbow'd.
Boxes get you builder.
Sexy buildings that provide some variation, get you Designer, think about it.
This all good because sexxy buildingsmake our city build..... not stupid or lame. I think in the next Citybuild we should have an area for Designers plus, or Archs plus, just so we can have some security on at least one part of the city being sexy. I think I'm going to go start a petition about next city now.
Does building real life things work to get promotion? E.g le louvre in Paris( lm building it on lowground grass when it's online( half done ))
Thanks for the kind words, Cosine! and nice list
I'd never considered building room by room. I also did the create-a-box-and-fill-it method. I'm also guilty of rainbows. I'm not changing that, though.
Who isn't guilty of rainbows? The room by room method has proved to most effective. Glad everyone is so supportive.
WoM Coins: 1
BUT RAINBOWS ARE PERDY
