After I click the "Go!" button at the login window with the custom client, I get the error message, "Could not retrieve server list. Going single-player." No idea whats causing it, I tried redownloading the client and using the new version, but it doesn't work either.

Minecraft.net is currently overloaded. Nothing wrong with your client, you'll just have to wait this one out.
