Dear triddin and/or trid|home (lol@irc), based off the colors featured on http://www.worldofminecraft.com/Minecraft_Text_Colors, I believe that
Vet should be Colour 2
Builder should be Colour B
Designer should be Colour 3
and Arch should be Colour 1
In other words, I think
the current Vet color should become the new Arch color.
The current Builder color should become the new Vet Color,
the Current Designer color should become the new Builder Color,
and the current Arch color should be the new Designer color,

Minecraft wasn't "broken" when World of Minecraft "fixed" it. World of Minecraft is known for going above and beyond for a higher unity and organization, why stop now?

I agree. Having Vets' colours similar to higher ranks is systematically and organizationally confusing. </OCD>

I agree that it should be changed because I think that as you progress through the branches of ranks, the colors should get darker.
Example:
Mod -> OP
Admin -> Exec+
(all get darker)

Personally I too am not a fan of the vet colour. But I don't like it because I find that colour hard on the eyes. I think that colour should be abandoned altogether for ranks and a new colour for vet found. However, I reckon builder, designer, and arch are good as they are now.
How about pink? That way it is in the same palette of colours as mod and op. I think this is better because the veteran rank recongnises not so much building ability but longevity at and dedication to the game which is an attribute we look for in mods. It by no means implies that vets are potential mods, merely that they are rewarded for some similar qualities.

this leaves me though with the question on admin+ and member ranks. what about these, should they be color changed?

I don't really like the Vet colour (Yes we spell colour like that), because its a bit too dark. You can't really read who said it, unless you look at the sky. If you make Arch the Vet colour, your gonna get a huge number of unhappy Archs complaining how their name can't be seen.

I like it, except for the dark blue....brighten it up a little bit.
