Did everything it said but still dont work

I just recently downloaded the client wrapper i just extracted it to my desktop becuase it did not say where to extract it any i download the classic.JAR too and it appeared as lots of files so i extracted them to lib folder and i start it up but then it says would not find main class program or somthing like that i tried it 4 times but it still dont work

dont extract the
dont extract the minecraft.jar just put it in the lib folder without doing ANYTHING with it
just do NOT extranct minecraft.jar
do NOT extract ANYTHING from the client or it will stop working
