Edit the lighting?

So I've been looking into this weird problem that I'm having on my old Mac laptop, where the blocks become red and transparent in the darkness. I can't find a solution although many people have been having the same issue, but I thought of a possible one but I have no idea if it can be done.
The problem is obviously caused in shadow... I guess this laptop's graphics card can't handle shadow rendering. So, is there a way to make the light at 100% on all blocks all the time? No night, no darkness?
Sorry, I'm really new to Minecraft and modding, so I apologize if I've made a totally n00bish post... but I'd appreciate any help with this :)
