Failed to Connect. "Invalid characters in username" MAC

When ever I connect to a server on my mac it says: Connection lost. Invalid character is player name.

Is it because I am using my Mojang account?

Works on other account.

I used my friends account that is not Mojang, it works fine. Is their any way around my Mojang account?

Login to the client with your mojang account. Then, when you have reached the server selection screen, pick a server but do not enter it yet. Search the URL bar at the bottom of the window for the section where it states your email and change it to your username. Then enter the server.

This happens because Classic

This happens because Classic isn't supported anymore. Which means the new login system doesn't quite work with the old classic server
