Just wondering if theres anyway to grow grass underground?

Like a torch every block?
What I mean is does anyone know the rules (like 1 torch every block around the dirt block) on growing grass underground. I cant seem too figure it out.

I have about that and cant get any to grow... my trees are growing but grass is still ugly dirt.

You can also use a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment to get the grass block

I would suggest using a silk touch tool to do it, or if you don't have one, ask someone who does have one if you can buy a grass block off them.

Come get your lovely fresh grass. Lot of grass blocks. Grass for sale.
You can then just place the grass block where you want it. Instead of trying to get the grass to walk up or down the stairs.

Had the same problem when i was building a huge underground space (under the first fountain on north road of /oldsmp if you want to have a look). The easiest way seemed to be to just place dirt, and random torches everywhere, and then add grass blocks spaced out in the dirt. I put the grass blocks pretty far away from each other, so they could all grow out and expand to cover more. Hope that helps!

Yes all very helpful. Thanks for the feedback.. I dont have a silk touch yet, so I ended up making a staircase from the suface down to level 10 and filling it with torches. Long process but it was worth it. thanks again everyone.
