I'm on a Mac, and I have everything I need. I put the .jar into the lib folder and pressed run.bat. My computer said I needed an application to run it with, so I chose my internet browser (Safari). I open run.bat, and an empty internet page opened. What do I do?

You dont use the run.bat. :P
You are supposed to run, minecraft-osx.sh

You do not have the latest version of Java.
You need to download the latest JDK.
