Help with making a server!

Hi, I would like to make a server on minecraft, preferably alpha, and preferably with hacks. The World of Minecraft custom client is NOT working, it is outdated because the .jar file is not in use (i think?). Is there any way to get this to work, or can anyone recommend another client (preferably hacked) for alpha/classic?
Also, I tried to join a server, but it says that my launcher is outdated, when it is not

your launcher is definitely outdated. update it and you should be able to join alpha no problem.
