Hey, I'm a new to minecraft and have no idea how to get the server working.

I've tried to put in the server address but all I get is; that server is out of date. or something like that.
If anyone could help that would be great.

If they are new they probably have 1.4.6 instead of 1.4.5 which is the server version.

that is what im thinking as well.
if you want to play on a server that is 1.4.5, then follow this link
http://assets.minecraft.net/1_4_6/minecraft.jar
and upoad it to %appdata\Roaming\.minecraft\bin and replace the current minecraft.jar or get Magic Luncher so you can still have 1.4.6 is a use and set up 1.4.5
