i just started minecraft yesterday and spent 6 hours trying to make a server for mac...i gave up!. well im down to meet new people to play on servers and make stuff. and also will they come up with an easy way to play with friends on minecraft soon so no portforwarding and needing of ip addresses?

You can use Hamachi for that
You can use Hamachi for that dude. easy way just install it copy your hamachi ip into your server log and good to go!
