How to change your Avatar

It keeps saying that the pictuire is not formated correctly and that the pictures directory is not writable.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this, I would like to change my Avatar picture for the forums.

When the site crashed and was put back online it was not configured properly. We are aware of this and we are trying to have it fixed.

I am using a 50x50 picture
i was hoping that a 50x50 pic wuld fit a 80x50 size restrictions.

I have been able to change my avatar, i did nothing new or different, it just accepted it now I have no idea why.
