Please direct me to a page for this if it already exists, I searched for weeks and found nothing. I would like a tutorial on how to install the minecraft alpha game client thing. I bought the game, but I can only play in browser, when I go to download I have tried every file on the page and none work.
Please help me.

Yes, I have done that a lot, it only makes the ERROR sound, that deep beep noise. Nothing happens.

Usually you can only play online if you have played on the downloaded client once? Do you mean you have played the creative version?

No. I play alpha in my browser, without downloading the client, and the download won't work for me.

Mac, PC (xp, vista, or 7), or Linux. Which is yours?

Xp. and It never installed in the first place.

Please bare in mind that notch has been under attack and the website has been down(and might be again when you read this).
It could well be that the download files have been corrupted due to this. Give it some time and try downloading again.
Also are you sure you played the alpha version in your browser? Single player should be in survival mode (no blocks in your bar when you start a new game).

yeah I know it's alpha, it starts with a menu screen and everything, there's mobs and snow sometimes. even mods work for it. but yeah, they probably are corrupted.
but even on the free weekend, it still didn't work...

Whenever i click the download link, the minecraft icon pops up in my downloads box (i have windows xp)
What do i do after that?
Am i doing the right thing?
