how do i make my own server?

hi there,
i have been trying to makae my own sever useing "simple port forewarding" and cant seem to be able to (might be doing something wrong) and i was just wondering if u guys can (or have) put a tutorial on how to make a minecraft server with a fair amount of details (for noobs like me).if you guys do this i will really aprreciat it (and i think other people will to).

SPF might not have your router type. I suggest going to www.ipchicken.com and copy and paste your ip into the search bar of your Internet browser, and there should be "Virtual Server Settings" In your firewall tab / list. Go there and enter the port shown in your server propertires (default 22565) and enter it in the boxes that ask for it. Then change the port type to TCP/UDP and finish your IP. Make sure to give it a name so you don't accidentally delete it. These instructions may not work for you, but it really depends on what modem/router you have.
