How do I post a server address

Hey new to this and just set up a server and looking for people to play on it. How ever I don't know what I need to include in the server address to give to other people.
If anyone could let me know that would be awesome.

first of all.. is it a Survival Multi-Player server? Or is it the "Classic Minecraft" which we know as creative?
Survival: If it is a survival server, you will have to Hand out the IP to all your friends as the IP. Or you can probably find Survival Multi-player based forums all over the internet, Just google. it. :)

Creative: As a creative server, your server should automatically "pop" up on the minecraft server list. Unless your ports aren't forwarded correctly, or you have failed to change the properties to Public.
