i gather they offered a pre-release beta of 1.8 for download. That prolly means half the world is trying to download an unfinished version of 1.8 & overloading the server
The rest of us cant authenticate...and hence cant play at all.
A friend in the USA tells me they can get into the server but its as laggy as hell. I just get the eternal egg-timer when I try to sign in

I typed me username and password correctly, I have the 1.9.0 client, I don't know about if minecraft.net is down or busy, I can go to the internets, and I re-downloaded the client.
