Here are my best attempts to rectify your problems.
@the waffle man Are you sure you're running the LATEST java? and more specifically, the correct version for your PC.
@armydude234 If you're using a MC client you downloaded from a friend/acquaintence's account, its obviously not going to work for you unless you are a premium MC.net member yourself.
Or: You're not putting in the correct credentials for your account
Or: If this is on a SMP server, you haven't been whitelisted.
@Raycar2 Probably the same problem as the waffle man. Please read his possible solution.
@Miner Damian I don't think the Play Offline option was given until a certain version of MC (not sure). You may need to get someone elses minecraft.jar and replace it with your own. Either that, or the server is down, the website is down and/or your internet connection is down.
Other than that, I can't offer any more solutions to your problem.
