Playing infdev today I decided to make a super-deep uber mine sort of structure to harvest anything I wanted, but when I dug about 50 cells downards I just found the sky? I mean, this is surely an error? I could understand finding lava or unbreakable rock, but the sky?
I played infdev today and I was like whaaat when I saw the sky! It was daylight but above it was night! Where I had previously dug before and I found lava but that has turned into sky! I started a new game to jump down but I found that you didn't fall, you just stand in mid air!!
Here's a picture:
Note that it is daytime above, but the hole has the night sky. If I stare at the hole long enough the sun and moon briefly pass by it.
What the heck? This is sort of not immersive.
Edit: This is not water by the way, I just noticed it sort of looks like water in the screenshot.
Delete the minecraft temporary files then try again.
Yep, it's been suggested on the main forums to change the floor back to lava at the very bottom of the map. Currently, if you drop down you'll die (according to the update notes).
Before the update though, I managed to drop down off the bottom of the map (through lava) and the browser froze for a good minute until finally I died. Sadface :(
Notch should probably fix the holes after next week, as he wants to apparently work on performance for that duration.
