I have a windows XP machine, trying to set up minecraft alpha (SMP) multiplayer server.

I set up my server with port forwarding, etc. Connecting using local ip 192.168.x.x works fine.

However, horrible things happen when I connect to my own server using my external ip:
1) Stuck on logging in screen.
2) My internet connection is gone
3) Connection times out (probably because not connected to internet anymore).
4) Any attempts to fix internet connection fail.
5) Restart fails, windows XP gets stuck on the shutting down screen.
6) Manual reboot (push the button for 5 seconds), computer and internet are back to normal.
Note: problem reproduction rate: 100% (happens every time)
What is going on?!

Yes, I said so in the second

Yes, I said so in the second line of my post.

And even if I didn't, these ridiculous symptoms still shouldn't happen.
