When Minecraft reached beta, i went to download the update. My laptop isn't very good for minecraft but usually i get 10-20 fps and now that it reached beta it's less than 7 fps!
Maybe it's from the leaf decay? Anyway i really need to know if more people have this same problem, if someone has it please respond in this topic, Thank You.
But maybe a turn off button doesn´t need to be the solution. Maybe an update with a more optimized minecraft or compressed java. I dont know, but what i know is that we need a fix and quickly!
Same problem here. Under Alpha there was some lag but it was playable and usually pretty smooth (I have an elderly 2Ghz 1.2GB RAM Intel onboard graphics PC of 2003 vintage). Now, under Beta, it's become incredibly slow, around 1fps! It's like playing Driller back in 1987 again. I'm going to point the finger at leaf decay too. Make it optional! Or at least let us play the latest Alpha version as an alternative.

I know because I built a massive tree-city and now it's melting in (laggy) slow motion! The horror! Please, please, yell at notch to have a button to turn off decay, or better yet to change back to the old rules for leaf decay. Look, I'm losing all this work:
