Minecraft Beta S M P Lag

Okay.
So, I've recently got my friend to buy me minecraft, and I used the gift-code. Blah Blah.
I play just fine in Single-player. 0 Lag. Around 45 FPS.
I play in Multi-player - Chat takes 5 minutes to appear, and there are giant world-holes. I can fall through the world. It happens in EVERY server.
I use; Game-Booster, yet still happens.
Really, I need help! Please post some answers that'll work.
I've tried; restarting my computer.
Deleting .minecraft, and re-installing minecraft
removing any additional programs
Help me, please.

I have the same problem, and it's been pissing me off.
Single player, just fine.
Multiplayer, sh*t loads of lag.
Optimine doesn't do sh*t now.
And for those of you who want to read on, here's some more details:
When 1.3 came out, the lag came with it. I tried to do everything you've mentioned, to no avail. Eventullay, the proble went away by itself.
Then I installed an HD texture pack. Nightmares came back. And this time around, the lag didn't fix itself. It was there to stay. So I completely deleted my .minecraft folder and did a complete reinstall. Didn't do sh*t.
This is just stupid.
