Minecraft Beta won't start

Whenever I double click Minecraft.exe, the cursor changes into the loading cursor and then back again. I redownloaded the Minecraft.exe and it made no difference.
I also deleted all of the contents of the .minecraft/bin folder, and still no change.
It was running fine before, and stopped working all of a sudden.
Please help!

I have the latest java. I tried your method but it says:
'Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object'
Is it because it cannot find it as a PATH varible?
