Minecraft freezes my pc

It is occuring in both browser (FF) and in World of Minecraft client. The game just freezes the whole pc, I can´t even press ctr+alt+del and each time I have to do a hard reset. I suspect it is because of Java but I have no idea how to solve it. Any ideas?

Well, somehow this only happens when playing the Classic version.. I have been playing the Alpha for hours now, and everything is fine. The freez occurs during the play and I must reset the pc if it occurs.

now it happened in alpha as well and deleted my save file!!! :( I can´t play it like this... help

try waiting, coz i have a slow comp and it also freezes when starting minecraft, it will take some time to load minecraft...
