Ive done the steps for hosting... installed everything.. port forwarded.. gone to http://minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=127.0.0.1&port=25565 but when i go to it, it says "Connection Lost, Illegal Name" on a red screen.
Got any ideas how to fix?

If its just a LAN server thats fine, but if your hosting a public server, turning verify names off isnt a great idea.
People with the know how can log into your server with any name they want, including YOUR NAME which will give them OP powers.

There's an annoying way to fix this correctly, but it involves downloading some add-ons for your browser and you have to jump through hoops everytime you try to access your own browser off the same computer.

MY question for this is, how does that fix with World of Minecraft Custom Client?? I can't get on my own and fly in my own world... which would make it a lot easier to patrol...

Go into the server properties, and where it says "Verify Names", set it to false.
